House Rules

Need to know

Please read the below Housekeeping rules and instructions of how to use the Kol-Kol Hot-tub as it is important information about your stay:

To ensure that every guest has the best possible experience, we kindly ask that you observe the following:

  1. Respect for the Property: Please treat the accommodation as if it were your own home. Keep it clean and tidy during your stay.
  2. No Smoking Indoors: Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the house. Please use designated outdoor areas and dispose of cigarette butts responsibly.
  3. Close Doors and Windows: To avoid unwanted visits from monkeys and other wildlife, please ensure all doors and windows are securely closed whenever you leave the property.
  4. Water Conservation: As we are fully dependent on rainwater, there is no municipal water supply on the farm. Please limit water usage and be mindful of unnecessary wastage.
  5. Noise Levels: Be mindful of other guests and neighbours. Please keep noise to a reasonable level, especially after 10 PM.
  6. Use of Appliances: Please follow the provided instructions for using appliances such as the wood-fired hot tub.
  7. Check-out Time: Kindly ensure you leave the property by the agreed check-out time to allow us to prepare for the next guests.

Relax and soak in our woodfired Kolkol hot tub! Here's how to use it:

Basic information:

  • Please fill the hot tub only once during your stay. The water can be used for a few days and will remain warm for several hours, even overnight.
  • The hosepipe for filling the tub is hanging next to the hot tub. (For the cottage: Walk around to the back where the water tanks are located, and open the tap.)
  • Important: Do not fill the hot tub all the way, as it will take too long to heat up
  • We will supply enough firewood and firelighters to heat the hot tub once.
  • Should you need more firewood, it is available for purchase at R25 per 10kg bag.
  1. Fill the Tub & Prepare the Fire:
    • Before starting, make sure the tub is filled with water till about ¾ of the
tub – this way it will heat much faster and helps to safe water.
    • Use small pieces of dry wood or kindling to build a fire in the firebox. Start
      with paper or firelighters underneath.
    • Slowly add more wood as the fire grows, being careful not to overload.
  2. Heating the Water:
    • It usually takes about 1–2 hours to fully heat the water, depending on the starting temperature.
    • Stir the water
occasionally with the paddle provided to distribute the heat.
    • The ideal soaking temperature is between 37°C and 40°C (98°F to 104°F).
  3. Maintaining the Fire:
    • Continue adding wood as needed to maintain a comfortable temperature.
    • Please note that the water can easily get too hot if too much wood is
added, so please be careful to manage the process.
  4. After Use:
    • Let the fire burn out naturally, do not add more wood.
    • Do not take out any hot wood from the tub!!
    • Please cover the tub when it’s not in use to keep it clean.
    • Please do NOT empty the water from the hot tub when you leave. We will
do so when we get everything ready for the next guests.
